Petrovac - Mediterranean Idyll

Petrovac dates back to Roman times, according to the mosaics that were discovered just recently. Today, Petrovac is a true coastal gem. This tiny town is located halfway between Budva and Bar. Numerous tourists enjoy the town’s cozy vibe, pebbled beaches, and black pine forests.

Moreover, it’s one of the most “family-friendly” places on the Montenegrin coast. So, it’s a great place for families with small children looking to vacation somewhere close to the sea.

The symbol of Petrovac is surely the postcard-worthy Castello fortress. It stands tall at the westernmost point, overlooking the entire town. It also offers a marvelous view of two nearby islets – Sveta Nedjelja and Katič. The former fortress now serves as a museum and is a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting Budva.  The islets can be reached by boat, and there are many boat tours to choose from.

A beautiful promenade stretches from the fortress all the way to the easternmost part of the town. It’s right next to the town beach, and there are many restaurants and shops to check out along the way. While some of the old houses have been renovated, most of them still hold their original shape and feature stunning coastal architecture.

If history and culture are what you're looking for, you can also visit one of the monasteries in close vicinity of Petrovac. First, there is the Gradiste Monastery, hidden in the karst area above the town. It can be reached by foot, following a scenic narrow path through the pine forest. Along the way, you will find an old stone house nestled in the woods. At the end of the hike, you will be rewarded with the most amazing view.

There is also the Rezevici Monastery. The complex dates back to the 13th century and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. This serene site is secluded and well-hidden in the wild nature park, overlooking the sea. So, if you enjoy walking and hiking, visiting one of these sites is a great activity!

One more leisurely walk over the Petrovacko hill will take you to the Perazica do beach. This is a proven favorite for both locals and tourists. It is surrounded by a thick pine forest, so there’s plenty of natural shade for those wanting to relax away from the sun. The sea here is open, so the water is very clean and a few degrees colder than in Petrovac.

But, if you don’t feel like walking too much, there is a beach right there in the town. During the day it’s bursting with life, and during the night it’s ideal for long walks under the moonlight.
